The Outsiders: Book/Movie Comparison

There were many similarities and differences in the The Outsiders novel and the Movie such as the similarities, Ponyboy, Dally, and Johnny do end up meeting Cherry and Marcia at the Drive In theater, but a difference is that in the beginning of the novel Ponyboy tells the reader that he comes out of the movie theater and walks around town heading home before he gets jumped by Socs, but in the movie it first starts off with Dally waiting for Ponyboy and Johnny on the sidewalk and they start walking around town and end up in a drive in theater, another difference from the novel and movie is that in the beginning of the novel the characters are described by Pony and how all 7 belong to the group, but in the movie only a Dally, Johnny, and Pony are met in the beginning of the movie, but the characters are not described like they were in the novel, another difference in the movie is that The Socs are from South and The Greasers are from the North, but in the novel The Socs are from the West and The Greasers are from the East. A similarity from the movie and the novel after Johnny, Pony, Cherry, Marcia, and Two-bit leave the drive in theater, The Socs drive up to them to pick up Marcia and Cherry since they had found out they were walking with greasers, and both in the novel and the movie Cherry mentions that she doesn't want to see Dally anymore cause if she did she would probably fall in love with him.
Some similarities is that in the Novel and the Movie Ponyboy had fallen asleep in the lot with Johnny when he gets home from a accidentally falling asleep in the lot Darry pushes him and he runs away, but the difference is that Darry hits Ponyboy across the face in the novel, another similarity is that after pony runs away he meets up with Johnny to run away with him too, and they end up walking to the playground where they are then approached the Socs that had picked up Marcia and Cherry when they were walking to get home, The Socs do end up putting Pony in the fountain and try drowning him, but then Johnny stabs Bob and the rest of the Socs run off and Bob ends up dying, after Pony and Johnny had killed Bob they seek help from Dally, which Dally gives them money and a gun and tell them to get onto a train and to hide out in an abandon church in , Johnny and Pony end up staying day for almost a week, they end up cutting their hair and Pony dyes his own, and Dally comes to check up and takes them to Dairy Queen where they talk about Cherry since she volunteered to be a spy for The Greasers and defend Johnny and Pony in court for Bob’s death, when they get back to the church from eating at Dairy Queen they find out the church is in fire and they try to save the children that are stuck in there, Johnny is badly hurt and Dally only has a burn on his arm and Pony didn't get hurt, Darry and Soda come to see Pony and take him home, the next day Two-bit and Steve come see Pony and they show him the newspaper, Everyone else goes to work while Two-bit and Pony go see Dally and Johnny, but a difference is that in the book when Two-bit and Pony see Johnny is that they see his mother and they tell her to stay away from Johnny, since she doesn't really care for him at home, but in the movie they don't show Johnny's mother.
At the rumble, in the novel Darry is the first to get hit from his old buddy Paul Holden which only Soda and Pony knew, but in the Movie Pony gets hit first and it seems Pony’s gang knew. A similarity is that after the rumble is over Pony and Dally drive to go see Johnny, Johnny tells Pony to stay gold, Johnny then dies, and Dally is heartbroken and leaves the hospital and robs a store then the cops are after him, he asks for help for the gang, but it's too late to save him since the cops shot Dally down and Dally dies. The differences is that after Pony had left the hospital in the novel he gets a ride from a stranger and finds out he bleeding from his head, but in the Movie Ponyboy doesn't get a ride he goes straight home. Another difference is that in the novel after Dally dies Ponyboy faints and is recovering in bed, but in the movie it goes from Dally dying to a Ponyboy finding the note that Johnny had left him in the book Gone With The Wind and it ends there. Another difference is that in the novel Ponyboy talks about the hearing and about the argument between him and Darry because he wasn't doing his homework so he could get a better grade in English since he was failing, to Soda running out of the house about the unopened letter that was sent back to him that was supposed to go to Sandy, then Soda told Darry and Pony that he's always having to choose sides when they’re fighting, and they all promise to him not to fight anymore, but in the movie it goes to the scene Johnny had left the letter for Ponyboy, then the movie ends there. The Outsiders novel and movie both have many similarities and differences between the
